The Lakewood Board of Fire Commissioners and Fire Chief Jonathan Yahr announced that several Lakewood Fire Department members have completed advanced Trench Rescue Operations training, marking a significant step as the department moves toward establishing a dedicated Rescue Company.
Trench emergencies are considered among the most hazardous technical incidents for first responders. The specialized training prepares firefighters to stabilize collapsing trenches, safely remove trapped workers, and operate in unstable, confined environments.
“As Lakewood continues to grow, so does the variety of emergencies our firefighters must be ready to respond to,” Fire Chief Yahr said. “Establishing a Rescue Company will ensure we are prepared for complex, high-risk incidents such as trench collapses and other technical rescues. This training is a major step in that direction.”
The department thanked the Wall Township Fire Companies for allowing Lakewood firefighters to participate in their program. Officials said they look forward to continued progress toward forming the Rescue Company.
