The Lakewood Board of Fire Commissioners and Fire Chief Jonathan Yahr have officially welcomed two new volunteer firefighters to the department, marking both a continuation of family legacy and a commitment to community service.
At this month’s Board of Fire Commissioners meeting, Alan Perez Vilchiz and Michael J. D’Elia III were sworn in as the department’s newest volunteer members. Both recruits will soon begin training at the Fire Academy.
D’Elia represents the third generation of his family to serve in the Lakewood Fire Department. His father, Michael D’Elia Jr., is a former Lakewood Fire Chief, while his grandfather, Michael D’Elia Sr., is a retired career firefighter who also served as Fire Chief, Fire Commissioner, and Township Committeeman.
“Our family is beyond proud to have children follow in our footsteps and help protect the residents of Lakewood,” said Chief D’Elia Jr.
Fire Chief Jonathan Yahr praised the appointments, noting that volunteer firefighters play a crucial role in protecting the growing Lakewood community.
The Lakewood Fire Department continues to seek civic-minded individuals who are interested in joining its ranks. Residents who want to become volunteer firefighters are encouraged to visit www.lakewoodfd.org and complete the form under the “Join/Apply Today” section.
Congragulation to Alan Perez Vilchiz and Michael J. D’Elia III !!
