Lakewood Fire Department Conducts Joint Emergency Drill Simulating Industrial Emergency

The Lakewood Fire Department participated in a coordinated emergency training drill with Church & Dwight at the company’s Lakewood facility, aiming to strengthen teamwork and readiness in the event of a real industrial emergency.

The exercise included two simulated scenarios: a chemical spill and a worker injured and stranded atop a storage tank. Firefighters, Hazmat units, and Church & Dwight’s on-site emergency personnel worked together to establish safety zones, rescue the mock-injured worker, and contain the simulated spill, mirroring the procedures used in an actual emergency response.

“This type of hands-on training helps everyone stay sharp,” said Lakewood Fire Chief Jonathan Yahr. “It’s about teamwork and making sure our firefighters—and our partners at Church & Dwight—are fully prepared when it really matters.”

No hazardous materials were used during the drill, and all operations were conducted under strict safety protocols. Following the exercise, participating agencies met for a debriefing to evaluate performance and review opportunities for improvement.
