With construction, weather, and traffic detours regularly impacting Lakewood’s busy roads, township officials are urging residents to take advantage of a free notification system that helps drivers stay informed — and avoid getting stuck.
By simply texting “LPDNJ” to 67283, residents can instantly sign up for round-the-clock text alerts from Lakewood Township and the Lakewood Police Department. The alerts include information about road closures, detours, emergency weather conditions, and other important safety updates. Standard text message and data rates may apply, but there is no additional charge for the service.
“Residents constantly reach out to us, asking to be informed about road closures, detours, and other important information before they get stuck,” said Mayor Ray Coles. “Thankfully, we do have such a system set up and we greatly encourage the public to take advantage of it.”
Committeeman and Emergency Services Liaison Meir Lichtenstein expressed gratitude to the Lakewood Police Department and township staff who maintain and improve the system. “Special thanks to the Lakewood Police Department and other Township officials who set up and manage our text alert system, and are constantly working to update it and make it as user friendly as can be,” he said.
In addition to the text sign-up, residents can visit lakewoodpolicenj.com/notify/ to create an account, offering more customization options, including selecting which types of alerts to receive and choosing to get them via phone calls instead of texts.
Township officials say further updates to enhance the alert system are in progress. They encourage everyone to subscribe now and stay tuned for more improvements.
