Lakewood DPW Urges Zone 1 Residents To Prepare Leaves Ahead of Next Week’s Collection

Residents in Lakewood’s Zone 1 — those whose garbage collection occurs on Mondays — are being urged to prepare their fallen leaves promptly ahead of next week’s scheduled leaf pickup, according to the Department of Public Works.

The next leaf collection for Zone 1 is scheduled for Monday, December 1 through Friday, December 5. However, DPW Director Phil Roux noted that crews sometimes begin work during weekend off-hours to get a head start on the following week’s route. As a result, residents are strongly advised to have their leaves ready by Friday afternoon to avoid missing the pickup.

The DPW outlined specific guidelines to help ensure efficient collection:

  • Rake leaves to the curbline, in the same general area where vehicles park.
  • Leaves must be placed in loose, open piles — not bagged or containerized.
  • Do not mix leaves with other debris, such as wood, brush, or dirt.
  • Keep leaf piles at least 10 feet away from storm drains to prevent blockages and flooding concerns.

Director Roux thanked residents for their cooperation so far, emphasizing that community participation is key to maintaining smooth operations.

“We would like to thank Lakewood residents for making the leaf collection process smooth and efficient,” he said. “The DPW looks forward to continuing our work toward making Lakewood as clean, safe, and beautiful as can be.”

Zone 1 residents with questions or concerns can contact the DPW for additional information regarding seasonal services.
