Lakewood’s Department of Public Works is advising residents in Zone 4 — where regular garbage collection occurs on Thursdays — to prepare their fall leaves for pickup ahead of next week’s scheduled collection. Leaf collection for the zone is set for Monday, November 24 through Friday, November 28.
DPW Director Phil Roux noted that while collection is officially scheduled for weekday service only, crews occasionally operate during weekend hours to begin work early. As a result, the department strongly encourages residents to have their leaves prepared at the curb by Friday afternoon prior to the start of the pickup week.
Because Thursday, November 27 falls on Thanksgiving, regular trash and recycling pickup for Zone 4 will take place on Friday, November 28, instead of Thursday.
The DPW reminds residents of the proper method for preparing leaf piles:
- Leaves must be raked to the curbline, in areas where cars typically park.
- Leaves must be left loose, not bagged, and free of debris such as wood, dirt, or brush.
- Leaf piles must be placed at least 10 feet away from storm drains.
Director Roux thanked the community for its cooperation, saying the department appreciates residents’ efforts to keep the cleanup process orderly. “The DPW looks forward to continue working towards making Lakewood as clean, safe and beautiful as can be,” he said.
