Lakewood Township says it took advantage of reduced traffic during Pesach to accelerate a wide range of infrastructure projects, completing roadwork, sidewalk upgrades and drainage improvements across multiple neighborhoods in a compressed timeframe.
Township officials said crews worked around the clock during the holiday period, when lighter traffic conditions allowed for faster execution and fewer disruptions to residents. The effort also involved coordination with Ocean County and New Jersey American Water on overlapping projects.
Among the completed projects were several paving initiatives, including stretches of Pine Street between New Hampshire Avenue and Avenue of the States, and Avenue of the States between Cedar Bridge Avenue and Building 1776. Additional paving work was carried out on Boulder Way, as well as on Hope Terrace, Rudwin Street and East and West Caranetta Terrace in coordination with New Jersey American Water. Ocean County also completed paving on New Central Avenue between Hope Chapel Road and Central Avenue.
Sidewalk and concrete improvements were completed along Woodland Drive, Hillridge Place and Lakeview Drive, as well as on sections of Private Way between 8th and 9th streets. Additional work took place on North Lake Drive from Case Road to Lake Drive Terrace and on Prospect Street between Lowden Avenue and Woods.
Road striping projects were also finalized, including on Pine Street between New Hampshire Avenue and Washington Avenue, along with multiple intersections on Somerset Avenue. Crews also completed striping on Bellinger Street, Astor Drive, Coleman Avenue and key crosswalks on East 5th Street and Ridge 4th Street.
Several larger projects saw significant progress during the holiday window, including continued work on Pine Street from Avenue of the States to Route 9, drainage improvements along Arboretum Parkway — including a major crossing on West County Line Road — and ongoing paving and drainage work across First, Second, Fourth, Ninth and Railroad streets, as well as Monmouth Avenue.
Additional progress was made on Phase 2 of drainage improvements along Marlin Avenue and on concrete upgrades along Lanes Mill Road and Ridge Avenue.
