We may still be weeks away, but fire safety ahead of the upcoming holiday season was already the hot topic at Lakewood Fire Department headquarters on Cedar Bridge Avenue.
Township Committeeman and Emergency Services Liaison Meir Lichtenstein met with the Lakewood Fire Department, Ocean County Fire Marshal’s Office, Lakewood Police Department and Lakewood Department of Public Works to collaborate on various fire safety issues at the upcoming Chometz burning and Lag B’aomer bonfire ceremonies that will be held in Lakewood.
Topics discussed included the permit application process; maintaining proper scheduling and supervision; traffic control; prevention of hazardous waste incineration; protecting children and adults at fire sites; public information regarding locations and scheduling of these events; and more.
“In recent years, there has been a remarkable increase in fire safety awareness and compliance before and during these events, greatly enhancing the safety of Lakewood residents,” says Committeeman Lichtenstein. “I would like to thank our Municipal and County agencies, as well as local residents and religious institutions, for working together so efficiently towards our common goals.”
“Lakewood Township should serve as a model for effective intergovernmental and communal collaboration,” says Harrison Pfeffer, Vice Chairman of the Lakewood Board of Fire Commissioners. “Our commitment towards optimal fire safety remains strong, and we will continue raising the bar to ensure that residents enjoy both a fulfilling and safe holiday season.”
