A juvenile has been charged with murder in connection with a fatal shooting that unfolded Sunday night in Lakewood.
According to officials, officers from the Lakewood Township Police Department responded at approximately 8:17 p.m. to the area of Pearl Street following reports of a male who had been shot. Upon arrival, responding officers located a juvenile male suffering from a single gunshot wound to his back.
The victim was transported to Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
A joint investigation determined that another juvenile was responsible for the shooting. Authorities said the accused is currently being held at the Ocean County Juvenile Detention Center.
Under New Jersey law, specifically N.J.S.A. 2A:4A-60, additional details about juveniles charged as delinquent cannot be released.
Prosecutor Billhimer credited the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, the Lakewood Township Police Department Detective Bureau, the Lakewood Township Police Department, and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit for their coordinated efforts in investigating the case.
The investigation remains ongoing.
