JUST IN: Jackson Twp. Council Approves Creating Police Chaplain Position

The Jackson Township Council this evening unanimously approved the first reading of an ordinance to create a Chaplain position in the Jackson Police Department.

While there is currently a police chaplain on staff, it has never been made official by the township government.

The position can be filled by as many people as are eligible for it, regardless of religion.

Jackson officials tell Lakewood Alerts that the ordinance is to cement the chaplaincy within the Jackson Police Department, ensuring that residents of all faiths have someone to assist them in times of need.

At Tuesday evening’s meeting, Jackson Police Chief Mathew Kunz applauded the chaplain ordinance, as well as another providing additional funding for police projects.
