A Jackson Township Building Inspector was killed in a single-vehicle crash on South Cooksbridge Road Thursday afternoon, authorities said.
Ronald Miller, who recently joined the Building Department as an inspector, was pronounced dead at Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus following life-saving measures, Jackson Police said.
Officers responded to the area near Westlake Boulevard at 1:55 p.m. for a report of a vehicle striking a tree. A 2013 Jeep Patriot registered to the Jackson Township Building Department was traveling southbound on South Cooksbridge Road when it veered off the roadway on the right side for reasons still under investigation, struck several objects, and came to rest against a large maple tree, police said.
Miller was the sole occupant. The Jackson First Aid Squad transported him to the hospital.
The Jackson Township Police Traffic Safety Unit is investigating the crash. Anyone who witnessed the accident is asked to contact Officer Thomas Parise at 732-928-1111.
