The U.S. Air Force is mourning the loss of Tech. Sgt. Antoine Simmons, an airman from Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst (Joint Base MDL) who passed away following a medical emergency while attending training in Texas, base officials announced Thursday.
Simmons, a member of the 87th Security Forces Squadron, died at approximately 5 p.m. on Tuesday at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio. The circumstances leading to his medical emergency have not yet been disclosed.
Col. Anthony Smith, commander of JB MDL and the 87th Air Base Wing, shared his condolences on behalf of the base community.
“We are heartbroken by the loss of Tech. Sgt. Simmons, and our deepest condolences go out to his family, friends, and teammates during this difficult time,” Smith said in a statement.
“The impact of this loss is felt across our entire JB MDL community, reminding us of the profound bond we share in service,” he continued. “We remain steadfast in our commitment to supporting those affected as we honor their dedication and sacrifice.”
Simmons’ passing has left a void within the Air Force community, particularly among those who served alongside him in the 87th Security Forces Squadron. The squadron, responsible for base security and force protection, plays a crucial role in safeguarding military personnel and operations.
