Jackson officials have issued a formal reminder to all rental property owners outlining updated registration requirements, inspection fees, and compliance deadlines under recently adopted ordinances.
In a notice distributed by the Office of Mayor Jennifer Kuhn, the township’s Code Enforcement and Rental Bureau emphasized that the landlord registration fee is $125, payable annually between January 1 and January 31.
Under the updated code enforcement rules, property owners are required to notify the township if there has been a change in tenants or ownership. Officials said owners must contact the Code Enforcement office for further instructions in such cases.
The township also clarified that Certificates of Continued Occupancy (CCO) inspections are only required when there is a change of tenancy. To schedule a CCO inspection, landlords must submit an application and pay a $100 inspection fee. The notice specifies that cash payments are not accepted, and that fees must be paid by check, credit card, or money order.
Additional requirements include submitting updated documentation if ownership changes occur, including a new deed, lease, and application reflecting the updated ownership name. No additional fee is required for ownership name changes. Property owners are also required to notify the township of any change in their mailing address or if a property is no longer being rented, in which case the rental registration can be deactivated upon written notice.
Separately, the township’s Rental Bureau announced that a $100 rental safety inspection fee is now in effect. That fee is due during the month corresponding to a property’s scheduled inspection. Officials said landlords must contact the Rental Bureau at least one month in advance to schedule an inspection.
Rental safety inspections are conducted out of the township’s office at 10 Don Connor Boulevard in Jackson, and appointments are scheduled based on street name, in accordance with the governing ordinance. The township reiterated that cash payments are not accepted for rental safety inspections.
The notice advises landlords to review the full ordinance adopted by the Jackson Township governing body for additional details and compliance requirements. Township officials said the reminder is intended to ensure that all rental properties remain properly registered and inspected under local housing and safety standards.
