A roadway improvement project aimed at easing congestion and improving safety began today at the intersection of South New Prospect Road and Louisiana Parkway, township officials announced.
The work focuses on Louisiana Parkway between South New Prospect Road and Illinois Avenue. Crews will remove the two existing medians on that stretch and reconfigure the roadway to create two turn-only lanes for vehicles heading toward South New Prospect Road. The intersection currently narrows to a single lane as drivers exit the neighborhood.
According to the township, the change is designed to reduce bottlenecks and allow traffic to flow more smoothly and safely during peak travel times. The project is part of a broader joint initiative between Jackson Township and Ocean County to address problem intersections and improve traffic conditions in the area.
“We are listening to the residents all over the town when it comes to traffic safety,” said Council President Mordechai Burnstein. “This happens to be an area of high congestion throughout the day. We are tackling these problems one by one and bringing the residents’ suggestions to our traffic engineers and the police department’s traffic safety bureau to ensure we continue making our roads safer and more efficient.”
Construction is expected to begin this week, and officials are urging motorists to use extra caution while traveling through the work zone.
Residents who wish to share suggestions for additional traffic safety improvements in Jackson can contact Council President Burnstein by email at mburnstein@jacksontwpnj.net.
