Jackson Township Appoints Mary Nelson As Police Department’s First-Ever Female Chief

Jackson Township has appointed its first female police chief, marking a historic milestone for the township and its police department.

Mayor Jennifer Kuhn announced the appointment of Captain Mary Nelson as Interim Police Chief. With the appointment, Nelson becomes the first woman to serve as police chief in Jackson Township’s history. She was previously the department’s first female lieutenant and captain.

Mayor Kuhn was joined by Council President Mordy Burnstein and Business Administrator Charles Terefenko in congratulating Nelson and expressing confidence in her leadership. The department’s leadership staff also met with Nelson and voiced their support for her appointment.

The township said the appointment is intended to strengthen public safety efforts and reinforce leadership within the police department. Officials added that details regarding an official swearing-in ceremony will be announced in the coming days.
