Jackson Township will formally rename West Lake Court as Michael “Mikey” Gioia Way, commemorating the life of a young resident whose passing in an October car accident left a deep impact on the community. The street dedication ceremony is scheduled for December 17 at 3:00 p.m., and township officials are inviting the public to take part in honoring Mikey’s memory.
Mikey Gioia, beloved by friends, family, and neighbors, tragically lost his life on October 8. For his family, the renaming of the quiet residential street symbolizes both remembrance and homecoming.
“Even though he’s not able to come home, that was his last destination; that was his final resting place in a way,” said his mother, Danielle Gioia, reflecting on the meaning behind the tribute.
The ceremony will be attended by members of the Jackson Township Police Department, Mayor Jennifer Kuhn, and Council President Mordechai Burnstein, who supported the initiative as a way to help the community heal. Township officials say the dedication is intended to create a permanent space where those who knew Mikey can reflect, grieve, and celebrate the life he lived.
The Gioia family will be joined by friends, classmates, relatives, and community members who were touched by Mikey’s kindness and spirit. Town leaders emphasized that the event is open to all who wish to stand with the family during this difficult time.
In announcing the tribute, township officials expressed their hope that Michael “Mikey” Gioia Way will serve as a lasting reminder of a young life taken too soon — and a source of comfort for all who continue to feel his absence.
The public is encouraged to attend and show support for the Gioia family and the wider community affected by this heartbreaking loss.
