Two officers from the Jackson Township Police Department’s Special Response Team (SRT) secured a top finish at a nationally recognized endurance shooting competition, the department announced.
Police Officer Curt Nagel and Police Officer Chris Brown recently competed in the Mammoth Sniper Challenge II, placing fourth overall against some of the top precision rifle teams in the country.
The three-day competition is known for its rigorous physical and technical demands. Two-person teams are required to traverse more than 30 miles on foot while carrying 60-pound packs containing all mission-essential gear. Along the route, participants engage long-range steel targets from improvised shooting positions and simulated concealment sites.
Of the 100 teams that registered, 84 began the event. Organizers eliminated teams that failed to meet strict rucking time standards, reducing the field to 65 after the first day and 59 by the end of the second day.
Nagel and Brown’s team distinguished itself by finishing first in three of the competition’s 12 shooting stages. They also recorded additional third- and fourth-place stage finishes and successfully engaged targets at distances of up to 988 yards.
Department officials said the result reflects the level of training and preparation within the agency’s Firearms Unit and Special Response Team.
The officers’ participation was supported by PBA Local 168.
