Jackson Road To Honor Fallen Lakewood Cop Nicklas Shimonovitch

Thompson Bridge Road, Jackson, will be dedicated to Nicklas Shimonovich #392 and a memorial sign will be displayed at Thompson Bridge Road and W. Veterans Highway on November 30 at 11:00 a.m. to honor the 23 year-old fallen Lakewood Police Officer.

Nicklas Shimonovich #392, Shimonovich, who was off-duty, was fatally injured when his motorcycle struck a mailbox and utility trailer parked off Thompson Bridge Road.

Shimonovich was a graduate of Jackson Memorial High School, where he competed at the Varsity level for both Football and Wrestling. Lt. Robert Shimonovich said his son always wanted to be a Lakewood policeman, noting that his son turned down a college wrestling scholarship to become a law enforcement officer.

“Nick didn’t just want to be a cop. He was set on being a Lakewood cop like his parents,” he said. “Nick loved serving the Lakewood community. He didn’t only protect, but he made a point to stop and talk to Lakewood residents.”

Nicklas Shimonovich, a graduate of both the New Jersey State Corrections Academy and the Monmouth County Police Academy, joined the Lakewood Police Force in 2018 and worked for three years as a Police Officer. He was assigned to the Lakewood department’s patrol division on the evening shift.

He is survived by his parents, both Lakewood Police Officers, Det. Sgt. Jeannette and Lt. Robert Shimonovich, and his brother, Leonardo Shimonovich, also a Lakewood Police Officer.

The dedication ceremony will include a Pledge of Allegiance; “God Bless America” performed by Cori Scotti; a keynote address by Robert Shimonovich; a Proclamation by Ocean County Commissioner Gary Quinn; a Presentation of Resolution; Closing Remarks by Chief Matthew Kunz, Jackson Police; and “America the Beautiful” performed by Cori Scotti.
