Jackson Township officials have released a new recycling map and collection schedule as the township prepares to return to weekly recycling pickup beginning Monday, January 5.
Mayor Jennifer Kuhn and the township council announced that the updated schedule marks the official return of weekly recycling service for Jackson residents after more than a decade of biweekly collection. Township officials said the change follows recent negotiations with the municipality’s recycling contractor and will not result in any tax increases.

According to the administration, the agreement includes a slight cost increase that is being absorbed through contract restructuring and improved resource management. Officials also said recycling districts were redrawn to streamline routes and improve efficiency for both residents and the collection vendor.
Mayor Kuhn said the move was driven by growing resident concerns and increased household waste tied to online shopping and home deliveries. She noted that recycling volume has risen significantly since weekly service was reduced more than ten years ago, calling recycling a basic municipal service expected by residents.
Council President Mordy Burnstein said the new schedule was reached less than a month after residents were asked to share feedback ahead of the recycling contract renewal. He added that the revised agreement is expected to reduce overflow, improve neighborhood cleanliness, and ease demands on the Department of Public Works, allowing staff to focus on other services.
Several council members voiced support for the change, citing quality-of-life improvements and responsiveness to resident input. Council Vice President Giuseppe Palmeri said the new schedule reflects transparency and open communication, while Councilman Ken Bressi said weekly recycling better matches current needs. Councilman Nino Borrelli described the service as a cost-effective way to keep the township cleaner and greener.
Township officials said the newly released recycling map outlines updated zones and pickup days. A weekly public information campaign is planned to ensure residents are aware of the changes and prepared for the transition.
The township thanked residents who participated in a recent recycling survey and encouraged those with questions to contact Council President Mordy Burnstein at mburnstein@jacksontwpnj.net.
