The Jackson Police Department has joined No Shave November for the first time, allowing officers to grow beards in support of men’s cancer research. As part of the national No Shave November movement, Jackson officers are setting aside their razors to raise awareness and funds for CentraState Hospital’s Healthcare Foundation, specifically for research and services related to men’s cancer.
Public Safety Director Joseph Candido granted the department permission to participate in this initiative, and officers have enthusiastically embraced the opportunity to make a difference. Seventy-one department members donated to the cause, committing to let their facial hair grow throughout November in solidarity with cancer patients and survivors.
The department expressed gratitude for the positive response from the community, noting that the support has encouraged them to consider making this an annual tradition and possibly expanding their efforts. “We are hopeful that with all of the positive feedback we’ve received, we’ll be able to continue to give and grow for this charity and increase our donation amount in the future,” said a department spokesperson.
The department plans to update the public on the total funds raised after the campaign ends. Until then, Jackson residents can expect to see many local officers sporting beards around town for a great cause.
