Jackson Township Police are urging residents to take extra precautions to help prevent vehicle burglaries, reminding the public that many of these incidents occur when criminals find unlocked vehicles or valuables left in plain sight.
In response to recent reports of vehicle break-ins, the department has increased patrols throughout the township and is actively monitoring neighborhoods. However, police stress that residents play a critical role in preventing these crimes by securing their vehicles and removing valuable items.
The department advises residents to always lock vehicle doors, remove wallets, purses, cash, firearms, electronics, and other valuables, fully close windows and sunroofs, park in well-lit areas when possible, and keep garage door openers out of sight. Police are also encouraging the public to immediately report any suspicious activity.
“Most vehicle burglaries are crimes of opportunity,” the department said. “Taking a few seconds to secure your vehicle can help prevent becoming a victim.”
Residents are reminded to call 911 for emergencies or contact the Jackson Township Police Department’s non-emergency line to report suspicious activity. Police say that community awareness and vigilance remain key to keeping neighborhoods safe.
