The Jackson Police Department announced a series of promotions during the July 8 Township Council meeting, recognizing four officers for their service and leadership. Public Safety Director Joseph Candido and Chief Matthew Kunz formally presented the promotions alongside Mayor Michael Reina and township officials.
Promoted to Lieutenant
Lt. Robert Reiff
Lt. Reiff, a Jackson resident since 1968 and Jackson Memorial High School graduate, began his law enforcement career in 2001. After serving in patrol and the detective bureau, he was promoted to sergeant in 2023. Reiff has earned multiple accolades, including “Detective of the Year” in 2016. His new role as Detective Lieutenant returns him to the Investigations Services Division, where he spent much of his earlier career.
Lt. John Rodriguez
Lt. Rodriguez, a Jackson resident since 1997 and College of New Jersey graduate, joined the department in 2003. A former SWAT officer and longtime detective specializing in sexual assault investigations, he has served as PBA president and currently leads the Superior Officers union. He will now command the Alpha/Charlie 1 Platoon.
Promoted to Sergeant
Sgt. Ryan Gladysz
A 2010 graduate of Jackson Memorial High School, Sgt. Gladysz joined Jackson Police in 2018 after serving with the NJ Department of Corrections. He was named “FTO of the Year” in 2024 and recently received a lifesaving award for resuscitating a 9-month-old infant. He will now oversee a patrol squad.
Sgt. John Roth
Sgt. Roth, a Marine Corps veteran with deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan, joined Jackson Police in 2016 after prior service with the Ocean County Sheriff’s Department and Seaside Heights Police. He has earned awards for DWI enforcement and mental health advocacy, and is active in training, resiliency, and veteran support programs. He will now serve as a patrol squad supervisor.
The Jackson Police Department extended congratulations to the newly promoted officers and expressed appreciation to the township administration for its continued support.
