Jackson Police Department Announces 4 Promotions and New Hire

The Jackson Police Department has announced the promotion of four officers and the addition of a new Special Class II Police Officer during a township council meeting on March 11. Public Safety Director Joseph Candido and Chief Matthew Kunz presided over the ceremony, recognizing the officers for their service and dedication to the community.

Among those promoted was Lieutenant Sean Greenberger, who has been elevated to the rank of Captain. A lifelong Jackson resident and 1999 graduate of Jackson Memorial High School, Capt. Greenberger joined the department in 2001 and has since served in various capacities, including as a Field Training Officer and Physical Training Instructor. Over the years, he has received multiple commendations, including two nominations for Patrolman of the Year and a Life Saving Award. Capt. Greenberger now leads the department’s Professional Standards Unit.

Also receiving promotions were Officers Robert Reiff, Michael Morizio, and Ernest “Wesley” Thomason, who have all been elevated to the rank of Sergeant.

Sgt. Robert Reiff, a Jackson native and Stockton College alumnus, has been with the department since 2014. With a focus on traffic enforcement, he has made approximately 200 arrests and received multiple awards for his work in DWI enforcement, including the Mothers Against Drunk Driving Award. A certified Drug Recognition Expert, he is also a key member of the Traffic Safety Unit and the department’s ATV and Motorcycle Units.

Sgt. Michael Morizio has been with the Jackson Police Department since 2015 after beginning his career as a corrections officer. Throughout his tenure, he has been named Officer of the Year three times and played a vital role in the department’s technological advancements, including overseeing the security camera upgrade project and launching the department’s drone program. He is also a certified DARE instructor and an active member of the National Technical Investigator’s Association.

Sgt. Ernest “Wesley” Thomason has a background in firearms instruction and tactical operations, having served on both the Ocean County Regional SWAT Team and the Jackson Police Department Special Response Team. Since joining the department full-time in 2016, he has played a crucial role in training officers in firearms safety and active shooter response. In 2024, he was named Range Master at the Ocean County Police Academy, further cementing his expertise in law enforcement training.

The department also welcomed Special Class II Police Officer Dominick Grenci, who previously served with the Seaside Heights Police Department. A Toms River native, SPO Grenci completed his law enforcement training at the Ocean County Police Academy and has expressed a strong commitment to serving the Jackson community. In addition to his policing career, he has entrepreneurial experience as the founder of Redkey Home Improvement LLC.

The Jackson Police Department extended its gratitude to Mayor Michael Reina and his administration for their ongoing support of law enforcement in the township.

“We congratulate all the officers on their well-deserved promotions and welcome Officer Grenci to the team,” said Lt. Fred Meabe, the department’s Public Information Officer. “Their hard work and dedication are vital in keeping our community safe.”
