After two years of wrangling, including six public hearings, the Jackson Township Planning Board has approved a plan to build four schools on Chandler Road. The unanimous decision paves the way for an estimated 2,500 Orthodox Jewish elementary and high school students to be educated in those planned schools.
The project initially faced rejection by the board in August over a planned circular driveway designated as a public roadway. Donna Jennings, the applicant’s attorney, accused the board of acting in bad faith and warned of impending litigation.
Following the rejection, Chandler Holdings revised the application, reclassifying the roadway as a private driveway.
Attorney Bernard Riley, representing opposition from residents, requested a delay to present expert witnesses addressing water, traffic, and environmental concerns. However, the board denied the request, citing the need to respect procedural timelines.
