Jackson Man Sentenced to 24 Years for 2020 Fatal Stabbing

J’Shawn Cutler, a 28-year-old Jackson man has been sentenced to 24 years in New Jersey State Prison in connection with the 2020 stabbing death of a local resident, prosecutors announced Wednesday.

The sentencing follows a nearly month-long jury trial in February, during which Cutler was found guilty of aggravated manslaughter, unlawful possession of a weapon, and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

The charges stem from a June 19, 2020 incident, when Jackson Township Police responded to a 911 call at a residence on Cannon Boulevard around 5:00 a.m. Officers discovered 23-year-old Isaiah Renouf with a serious chest wound. Despite emergency medical efforts at the scene and at Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus in Lakewood, Renouf was pronounced dead. An autopsy determined the cause of death to be a stab wound to the heart and ruled it a homicide.

An investigation conducted by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, Jackson Township Police Department, and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit concluded that Cutler had stabbed Renouf during an altercation inside the residence.

Cutler was arrested later that day during a motor vehicle stop by Lakewood Township Police and has remained in custody at the Ocean County Jail since his arrest.
