A grand jury has indicted Louis Gargiso, 39, of Jackson, on charges of murder, following the brutal stabbing death of his 74-year-old roommate, Robert Sunris, last summer. Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer announced the indictment on Thursday, confirming that Gargiso will face charges of Murder, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.
The horrific crime unfolded in the early morning hours of July 19, 2024. At approximately 5:55 a.m., officers from the Jackson Township Police Department rushed to a residence on Maple Street following a report of an unconscious male. What they found was far more grim—Sunris lay lifeless, a single, fatal stab wound to his chest, with a knife ominously placed beside him.
Investigators from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, Jackson Township Police Department, and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit swiftly launched a probe into the chilling murder.
Their findings pointed directly at Gargiso, the victim’s own roommate, as the prime suspect. Authorities took him into custody at the scene without incident, and he has remained behind bars at the Ocean County Jail since that fateful day.
Now, with the grand jury’s decision, Gargiso faces the weight of the law for the violent killing. His fate will soon be decided in a court of law.
