Jackson Man Charged With Murder in Fatal Shooting of Woman at Apartment Complex

A Jackson man has been charged with murder following the fatal shooting of a woman at an apartment complex Saturday morning, authorities announced.

Ocean County Prosecutor Brad Billhimer said that Shaquille Green, 29, of Jackson Township, was charged with Murder, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon in connection with the death of 28-year-old Toraya Reid, also of Jackson.

According to authorities, officers from the Jackson Township Police Department responded to a 911 call at approximately 11:00 a.m. reporting shots fired and an unresponsive female at the Paragon Apartment Complex on Larsen Road. Responding officers discovered a woman near the exit of the complex who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene and later identified as Reid.

Additional officers observed a man, later identified as Green, running along North New Prospect Road. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to Jackson Township Police Headquarters.

A joint investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit, Jackson Township Police Department, and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit determined that Green, who had been in a dating relationship with Reid, was responsible for her death.

Green was charged and lodged in the Ocean County Jail pending a detention hearing.
