Jackson Councilman Scott Sargent Passes Away At 61

Jackson Township is mourning the loss of Councilman Scott Sargent, a longtime public servant who passed away this week. His death was announced in a statement by fellow Councilman Mordechai Burnstein.

Sargent, who had a long history of serving both his country and his local community, was widely respected for his commitment to residents and public service. Over the years, he held multiple positions in town government, including roles on the Jackson Board of Education and the Township Council.

“Scott was known throughout the township for his dedication to all residents through the multiple areas of public service that he served in,” said Burnstein. “Whether on the Board of Education or later on the Township Council, Scott was always there to help everyone.”

Described by colleagues as principled and unwavering, Sargent was admired for his belief that public service meant doing the right thing regardless of the circumstances. Burnstein noted that Sargent played a significant role in his own path to elected office, serving as both a mentor and a friend.

“My entire family will miss our friend Scott,” Burnstein said. “We send his wife, children, and entire family our deepest condolences.”

Details regarding funeral arrangements or public memorials have not yet been released.
