Jackson Council President Mordechai Burnstein announced that members of the Jackson Township Council will soon begin hosting “Meet the Council” sessions and designated “Council Hours,” providing residents with opportunities to meet directly with their elected representatives.
“Years ago, former Mayor Michael Reina hosted these ‘Meet the Mayor’ sessions, and it was a great way for the community to sit face to face with our elected officials—it’s how I got involved in local government,” Burnstein said. “We are going to use these ‘Meet the Council’ sessions and ‘Council Hours’ to hear directly from our residents, to hear their concerns and ideas, and to use those sessions to continue providing results and solutions for our residents.”
According to Burnstein, each council member will soon have an office space at Town Hall and will hold individual “Council Hours” to meet one-on-one with residents. A schedule of those hours will be published on the township’s website in the coming weeks.
The “Meet the Council” sessions will take place inside the Town Hall main meeting room and will feature two council members at a time, sitting with small groups of residents to discuss local issues and identify solutions. The meetings will be held regularly throughout the year as an informal forum for residents to engage with council members outside of formal council meetings.
“They will essentially be a public meet and greet, and all questions are on the table,” Burnstein said. “Want to talk about new parks, policing, housing, development, even to openly discuss the rampant rumors that always circulate on social media—we’ll talk about any topics. The residents will choose the agenda and topics of the day, not us.”
A full schedule of “Meet the Council” sessions and “Council Hours” will be released soon.
