Jackson Township officials are moving forward with another open space preservation effort after the Township Council introduced an ordinance to purchase a 3.22-acre property at 277 Grawtown Road for $795,000.
If approved, the property will be permanently preserved as open space, preventing future development and protecting the environmentally sensitive land. According to township officials, preserving the parcel would eliminate the possibility of as many as 12 residential homes or a school being built on the site, ensuring the land remains undeveloped for future generations.
The acquisition would be funded through Jackson Township’s Open Space Trust Fund, which is dedicated exclusively to preserving land for conservation, recreation, and the protection of natural resources and water quality.
The ordinance received its first reading during the Township Council meeting on June 24 and was introduced by a 4-0 vote, with Councilman Pollak abstaining. Before the purchase can be finalized, the proposal must undergo a public hearing followed by a second reading and final approval by the council.
If adopted, the purchase will mark another step in Mayor Jennifer Kuhn’s ongoing efforts to preserve Jackson Township’s open spaces while responsibly managing future growth and protecting the community’s natural resources.
