JACKSON: Cedar Swamp Road to Close for Up to 60 Days Starting Today for Major Roadwork

Cedar Swamp Road will be closed to thru-traffic beginning Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at approximately 7:00 a.m., for a road improvement project expected to last between 45 and 60 days. The closure will remain in effect 24 hours a day until all work is completed.

The affected section runs between the West Veterans Highway/Bennetts Mills Road intersection and the East and West Commodore Boulevard intersection. While local traffic will still be permitted to access driveways and businesses, through-traffic will not be allowed. Multiple detour routes will be posted and vary depending on travel direction and destination.

The project will include intersection realignment, roadway improvements, and widening. Motorists are advised to follow all detour signage and allow extra travel time.

Additional closures and detours associated with the project include:

Jackson Mills Road will be closed at Frank Applegate Road. Heathwood Road residents will maintain access. Trucks exceeding four tons or not making local deliveries will be detoured to East Commodore Boulevard.

Freehold Road will be closed at Leesville Road, with access available up to Mallard Court for local residents.

Residents on Cedar Swamp Road:

Those living between Fish Road and the West Veterans Highway/Bennetts Mills Road intersection will have access from the west.

Residents between Christian Way and Commodore Boulevard—as well as customers of Glory’s Liquors—will have access only from Commodore Boulevard.

Jackson Police officers will be stationed at both ends of the closures to assist motorists as needed. Officials urge drivers to use alternate routes when possible and appreciate the public’s cooperation during the extended closure.

  1. Freaking disaster area. I’m sure when you’re done it’ll be a mishmash of potholes and ruts. Maybe it will be like bouncing on a trampoline like the section of Leesville Road by Quik Check.

  2. Hi, for the Cedar Swamp Rd project, are they widen the road and putting a new traffic signal on Freehold and Cedar Swamp Roads? I know Jackson Mills Rd and Cedar Swamp Rd will reconstruct a new traffic signal. I’m surprised the road has been closed for 45 or 60 days about 2 and a half months. Hope the road will be opened by this early September to complete.
