ICE agents were seen arresting a man early Monday morning at the intersection of 2nd Street and Lexington Avenue in Lakewood, as federal immigration enforcement activity continues to increase across the region.
Authorities have not publicly released the individual’s identity or details regarding his immigration status, and ICE did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The arrest comes amid reports of dozens of recent detentions in Lakewood and surrounding towns, part of a broader nationwide crackdown on undocumented immigrants under the administration of Donald Trump. The stepped-up enforcement has fueled growing anxiety within the local Latino community.
Beyond the arrests themselves, the heightened enforcement activity is beginning to ripple through daily life in Lakewood. Many local cleaning women — a significant part of the area’s informal workforce — have recently canceled jobs or stopped working altogether out of fear that they could be detained by immigration authorities.
