Three years ago, I was just your average nearly-21-year-old bochur from Lakewood, New Jersey. I had friends, plans, and a future ahead of me. But in one moment, everything changed. I made a decision that can never be undone — I got behind the wheel after drinking alcohol. That choice ended someone’s life, permanently injured another person, and launched a brutal legal battle that turned my entire world upside down. Suddenly, my life became consumed by courtrooms, lawyers, and the overwhelming weight of consequences I never imagined facing.

Wow!!! I wish every parent could make their child read this. Parents have to teach their children not to drink, smoke and do drugs. I know that unfortunately Frum parents neglect their children way too much. Anyone who disagrees should go and drive around Frum neighborhoods and look at hang outs. 7-11 , ice cream places, cholent spots , etc. I know it. I see it. Monsey is no different. Where were the parents of the house he was drinking at. Where was the responsible adult not to let anyone drive who drank. A lot of people are at fault here.
” Frum parents neglect their children way too much” wow expressing such horrific heresy on a group of Shomrei Torah Umitzvos should awaken you to the danger of evil speech. Chazal teach החיים והמות ביד הלשון. Encouraging all to be more vigilant in engaging or allowing their children to engage in wreckless behavior is commendable, speaking evil about yidden is to be condemned!
This person was an adult.
Blaming the parents just won’t cut it.
But if you are filled with animosity to frum people, you can say anything.
You make it very obvious that your singe without kids the way you spew like you know about responsibilities. Nothing in life is perfect and you cant blame the whole world when theres a problem.either way the percentage of kids that do the things you say is a drop in a bucket compared to the amount of kids that aren’t so look at the successful side
How about not drinking at all. Jewish people should only drink when they have to i.e. Kiddush etc. There should be no alcohol served at parlor meetings…
The United States is unique in its Quaker non-drinking culture, considering drinking a filthy vice, to be shoved under the rug or treated like a disease.
In most Western countries, drinking alcohol is part of normal life, in moderation. If a teen has a shot glass of whiskey at a kiddush, he isn’t becoming an alcoholic. But if you make a fuss out of it, pushing him to drink in private, he may.
There is nothing Jewish about the temperance movement.

Thank you Mordy for writing this article. It’s so unfortunate that the issue has gotten as bad as it has.
One thing I would have emphasized in the article is that first and foremost someone was killed because of your negligent actions. Besides for the prison sentence, we need to acknowledge that we need to be responsible, otherwise we are putting people in danger. That applies to all dangerous actions.
