A fast-moving house fire tore through a residence on Dutch Valley Road in Howell Township on Shabbos afternoon, displacing a family and prompting a large-scale emergency response from multiple agencies.
Police said the blaze was reported at approximately 1:53 p.m., when officers arrived at 18 Dutch Valley Road to find heavy black smoke and active flames billowing from the rear of the home. By the time first responders reached the scene, all occupants had safely evacuated. No injuries were reported.
The home is owned by a Rahway police officer. In the aftermath of the fire, a fundraiser has been launched to assist the family as they begin the process of recovery.
Fire companies from across Monmouth and Ocean counties converged on the scene to battle the blaze, including units from Southard, Freewood Acres, Squankum, Ramtown, Jackson Township, Lakewood, and South Wall, alongside EMS crews, fire officials, and utility representatives.
Despite the challenging conditions, no injuries were reported among responding personnel.
Investigators from the Howell Township Fire Bureau and the Monmouth County Fire Marshal’s Office remain on scene working to determine the cause of the fire. Authorities have not yet released additional details about the extent of the damage or how long the family may be displaced.
