In a devastating incident, a 3-year-old child in Trenton tragically passed away after sustaining a self-inflicted gunshot wound on Wednesday afternoon.
Upon receiving a report of a three-year-old child with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Task Force swiftly responded to Princeton Avenue in Trenton on Wednesday. The child was immediately transported to Capital Health Hospital, where, sadly, he were pronounced dead.
Authorities have confirmed the recovery of a firearm at the scene. However, the identity of the child and their family is being withheld at this time.
Trenton Mayor Reed Gusciora expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the child’s life, calling the incident “horrific.” Gusciora also addressed the senseless nature of gun-related deaths, particularly when innocent children are caught in harm’s way. He urged the community to unite in mourning the family’s devastating loss and offered thoughts and prayers to those affected.
The Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office is currently conducting an ongoing investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
