Two people were hospitalized following a two-vehicle collision Sunday evening in Manchester Township, authorities said.
At approximately 8:38 p.m. on Sunday, Manchester Township Police responded to the intersection of Broadway Boulevard and Burnside Street after receiving reports of a crash. Upon arrival, officers found a blue 2021 Jeep Cherokee on its passenger side on the front lawn of a residence in the 1400 block of Broadway Boulevard, with extensive damage. A gray 2015 Toyota Camry was located in the intersection with significant front-end damage.
According to the initial investigation, the Jeep was traveling southbound on Burnside Street when it failed to stop at a posted stop sign and struck the Toyota, which was heading eastbound on Broadway Boulevard. The impact caused the Jeep to overturn and land on its side.
The driver of the Jeep was identified as Briana Rodriguez, 23, of Brick, NJ. Her passenger, Anthony Fernandez, 21, also of Brick, was traveling with her at the time of the crash. Both were extricated by emergency responders and transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center via Robert Wood Johnson Barnabas Health’s LifeFlight medevac helicopter. They were reported to be in stable condition.
The driver of the Toyota, Jun-Jun Zheng, 38, of Toms River, was not injured.
EMT’s from the Manchester Township Division of Emergency Services, along with volunteer firefighters from the Ridgeway and Manchester Fire Companies, assisted at the scene. Paramedics from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, Toms River EMS, and Priced Rite Towing also provided support.
The crash remains under investigation by Patrolman Brendan Brush of the Manchester Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit. Police indicated that failure to stop at the intersection’s posted stop sign by the Jeep driver appears to have been the primary contributing factor.
