A few years ago Hatzolah of Central Jersey (HCJ) launched a program that would have members ready to respond to any call in the middle of the night. The idea behind the program is that the response to emergencies should be as rapid as possible and that was best achieved by having members “ready to go” all night. The program was called “nightwatch”.
Over the last few months the program has been expanded and improved. The program now has a full primary crew of two EMTs and one Paramedic ready to go at a moment’s notice all night and backup crews in all the neighborhoods HCJ serves. These nightwatch crews are backed up by the entire membership that responds to calls in the middle of the night every night of the year. The nightwatch crews make up for any potential delay getting someone out of the house in the middle of the night. A “stop gap” to ensure that the care HCJ strives to provide is available on the scene in the shortest possible time.
Today we add the final component to this program by adding a new dedicated marked vehicle for the primary nightwatch crew. The vehicle was graciously donated by 3M Pharmacy and will be stationed at the James street firehouse parking lot. The new vehicle is outfitted with all the latest and best Basic Life Support equipment. The vehicle will provide a safer and more efficient way of responding to calls at night for our membership so that they can deliver the best possible care to our communities.
