HATE: Lakewood Police Investigating Explosive Device Thrown At Jews Walking Home From Shul

Just before 9:30 pm on May 20th, Officer Daniel Spagnuolo was dispatched to the area of Squankum Road and Shafto Road for the report of an explosion and a smoke condition. Upon arrival he was met by a neighborhood resident, who advised that he observed two vehicles, traveling slowly on Squankum Road just before he heard what he described as a loud boom.

Further investigation revealed that a nearby home video system captured the event. Upon reviewing the video, it appears that two pick up trucks, one light in color, the other dark in color, were traveling in tandem south on Squankum Road when they stopped near a small wooded section. After a brief pause, a lit object was tossed from one of the trucks and into the wooded area, just prior to detonation. Two pedestrians were approximately 50 to 100 feet away at the time. No one was injured.

At this time the investigation is active, with assistance from Lakewood Civilian Safety Watch. Anyone with information is urged to contact Det. Kevin Donnelly at the Lakewood Police Department, 732-363-0200 ext. 5346.

  1. Hey, easy on the “HATE” and the “thrown at Jews”. I was there. It was thrown into the woods. There were 2 Yidden around, not even too close. Of Course we want to know why it was thrown etc. but until we find out, I’d say possible “hate” and B”H NOT thrown at Jews…
