Gov. Murphy Lifts School Bus Mask Mandate Effective March 7th

Mask mandates for children riding school buses will be lifted along with mask mandates while in school beginning March 7th, Governor Phil Murphy announced Monday.

Governor Murphy said that he is recommending school districts to keep the bus mask mandate in place until then, though many districts are already allowing their students to go maskless on buses.

The move comes after the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) revised its mask guidance last Friday, dropping mask recommendations completely for people in areas with declining COVID-19 numbers.

As part of that guidance, the CDC said that its recommendations “not require people wear masks on buses or vans operated by public or private school systems, including early care and education/childcare programs.”

Despite the change in guidance, Governor Murphy said he is keeping the mandate for schoolchildren until March 7th, the day he has previously announced the mask mandate in schools would expire.
