Fugitive Arrested After 15 Years on the Run for Fatal GSP Crash in Ocean County

Chaudhry Yousaf, 52, a fugitive for nearly 15 years in connection with a fatal crash on the Garden State Parkway, was apprehended on December 24, 2024, at John F. Kennedy International Airport by the U.S. Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force, according to Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer.

Yousaf, whose last known address was in Valley Stream, New York, was extradited to New Jersey on December 27, 2024, and is currently being held at the Ocean County Jail.

The charges stem from a motor vehicle crash that occurred on March 28, 2009, near milepost 77 on the Garden State Parkway. An investigation by the New Jersey State Police determined that Yousaf was driving a black Lincoln Town Car southbound when he lost control, striking a roadway sign before crashing into a wooded area. The impact claimed the life of 26-year-old Harris Kahn of Queens, New York. Another passenger, Kishwa Jahan, 32, was treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released.

Troopers at the scene observed signs of intoxication, and Yousaf was arrested for Driving Under the Influence. He was later charged with Vehicular Homicide after Kahn succumbed to his injuries the following day.

Initially held at the Ocean County Jail, Yousaf posted $150,000 bail on March 30, 2009, and was released. However, he failed to appear for a mandatory court hearing on February 5, 2010, prompting a bench warrant for his arrest.

Yousaf’s capture brings an end to his status as a fugitive, and he now awaits legal proceedings in New Jersey.
