A bochur was nearly struck by a driver on Monday night when he crossed against the signal at the intersection of Twin Oaks and County Line.
Dashcam footage shows the bochur hurrying across the intersection after the light had already changed. The driver told Lakewood Alerts that the dashcam has a wide camera angle, making it appear that the bochur was in front of his vehicle before he was actually in his line of sight.
“By day I might’ve noticed him out of the corner of my eye, but not at night,” the driver said. “There’s also bigger chance that I would have noticed him if he had a blinking light on his bike, but unfortunately, safety wasn’t his priority.”
The incident serves as a reminder to parents, children, and all pedestrians to be extremely vigilant when cross streets, as a one-time laxness in following safety could result in devastating, life-altering consequences.
PLEASE have Bochrim wear green fluorescent Reflector Belts at night! Seen few times bout 10-10:15 pm getting off school Bus & “close call” nearly getting hit! Chas V’Sh
Lucky no Lakewood cops around , otherwise the driver would of got a ticket. And f he would have hit him forget it …..
i think a goos share of drivers have had a close call with kid or bochor on a scooter. so my question is the parents of these biys; what do you feel everytime your kid leaves the house on a scooter. do you ever give them guidelines on how to drive safely? do you just assume that your kid is safe and it is only the other vilde chayaos who have bad or uncaring parents? i see kids crossing intersections in front of rapidly approaching cars with out slowing down or even looking both ways. who is to blame here? who is at fault?
and the question is who has the most to lose? the kid with no protection or the driver that has to carry insurance and can be ticketed even if they are not at fault? i know the real answer but it scares me just thinking about it!
