Firefighters are working to contain a multi-acre wildfire that erupted Monday afternoon in Pine Park, near the Lakewood Country Club, according to the New Jersey Forest Fire Service.
The blaze has prompted significant disruptions in the area, including traffic delays along West County Line Road, authorities said. Pine Park has been closed to the public, with all activities suspended as firefighting efforts continue.
The New Jersey Forest Fire Service initially deployed a helicopter to monitor the fire from above, alongside bulldozers and fire trucks working on the ground to establish containment lines and control the spread.
Hatzolah has released a smoke advisory, urging sensitive demographics to avoid the smoke billowing from the fire across portions of Lakewood and Jackson. Video showed a heavy blanket of smoke covering portions of Lakewood in a choking fog on Monday night.
As of Tuesday morning, the wildfire had grown to 35 acres in size and was 50% contained.
