The U.S. Justice Department has joined the investigation into the circumstances surrounding Friday’s violent antisemitic rampage in Lakewood and Jackson, which left two people in critical condition.
FBI agents stationed in New Jersey are assisting the Lakewood Police Department, Jackson Police Department, Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, and Ocean County Sheriff’s Department in investigating the incidents.
At a press conference on Sunday, officials repeatedly referred to the attacks as a terror incident, with Committeeman Meir Lichtenstein saying they are evocative of the terror attacks that take place in Israel.
It isn’t clear yet what role the FBI is playing in the investigation, but the participation of the U.S. Justice Department in the probe greatly enhances law enforcement’s ability to delve into Friday’s events and answer the many questions that continue to surround it.
