A military F-16C Fighting Falcon jet made an emergency landing at Atlantic City International Airport following an onboard emergency declaration. Airport officials quickly shut down the airfield, allowing emergency vehicles to strategically position themselves on the runway.
The emergency landing occurred at approximately 10:30 a.m. Sunday. The origins of the aircraft, described as a “visiting unit,” remained under wraps, leaving many questioning the circumstances that led to the pilot’s necessity for an emergency landing.
Pilots are granted the discretion to declare in-flight emergencies for a multitude of reasons in accordance with established protocols, invoking such actions when they perceive a need for an immediate landing.
