ERASED AND IGNORED: TLS Again Censors Out Leading Lakewood Askanim Over Personal Grudges

In yet another troubling display of selective editing, The Lakewood Scoop (TLS) has removed individuals from photos shared as the top image on an article based on its personal agendas. This time, like many others, the erasure wasn’t about supposed modesty – the faces of women were shared this time without any qualms – it was about silencing respected community leaders.

At the Lakewood Menorah Lighting Ceremony at the Police Department on Monday morning, prominent figures including Motty Twerski, executive director of Hatzolah of Central Jersey, Pinny Werner, Lakewood Shomrim Coordinator, and long-serving askanim like Shragi Pinter, Chaplain Sruly Bursztyn, and Chaplain Yankel Wenger were all physically present — but mysteriously absent from TLS’s coverage.

This wasn’t an oversight. It was deliberate. And it’s not the first time.

TLS has a growing reputation for editing out individuals it has personal beef with. Even the Roshei Yeshiva of Beth Medrash Govoha (BMG) have found themselves digitally erased by TLS.

The real question is why.

When the township treats TLS as its unofficial mouthpiece, providing it with exclusive images and information, it raises eyebrows. By allowing this type of selective censorship, the township openly aligns itself with TLS’s editorial choices. Is this the kind of “news” Lakewood’s leadership wants to promote — one that picks and chooses which leaders to acknowledge based on personal grudges?

For a platform that claims to be Lakewood’s primary news source, TLS’s actions betray the very community it serves. Editing out community leaders not only distorts reality but sows division.

How can TLS expect to be taken seriously when its content reflects personal biases rather than journalistic integrity? Can a news outlet that erases respected figures simply because of disagreements or politics claim to represent the values of Lakewood’s residents?

Community trust isn’t a privilege; it’s earned. And right now, TLS doesn’t have any.

BELOW ARE THE PHOTOS FROM TWITTER AND WHATSAPP STATUS THAT TLS DELIBERATLY CHOSE TO SEND TO THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE:

  1. alerts just jelous that tls has…has…has…has …has ummmmm

come to think of it, they have nothing anymore.

    thanks for ending this madness

  2. I’m not sure who’s right and who’s wrong here, but one thing I can say is that Klal Yisroel needs yeshuos now and all this is definitely NOT going to help us!! Worry about yourself and stop worrying about and criticizing yenem. Just read some of the above replies and think long and hard about this all.

Disclaimer: I really don’t know any of the behind-the-scenes, and it could be that I have to be dan l’kaf zechus, but my point can be made in any event.

    • “Lakewood Alerts, this is the hill you’re choosing to die on? Complaining about who TLS cropped out of a photo is such a petty move, it’s hard to take you seriously. You act like this is some major communal crisis, but really, it’s just you throwing a tantrum because your favorite askanim didn’t get their moment in the spotlight.

And then you try to dress it up like some moral outrage about the ‘values of Lakewood.’ Let’s be real—this has nothing to do with hashkafa and everything to do with personal grudges. The irony is almost too much: accusing TLS of bias while your whole article drips with self-serving indignation. If you’re so committed to journalistic integrity, maybe try reporting real issues instead of whining about photo ops.

Also, can we talk about how unproductive this whole approach is? Airing grievances in a way that sows division and stirs drama isn’t exactly the Torah way to solve problems. If anything, this article makes it clear you’re more interested in scoring points than building up the community.

Lakewood deserves better than this immature back-and-forth. If you think TLS is doing a bad job, fine—prove them wrong with quality reporting instead of this kind of middle-school theatrics.”

  3. This is just more Lakewood Alerts (YWN) garbage!
Focus on reporting quality news for the lakewood crowd and you’ll be a winner, don’t stoop down to the level of losers.

  4. “It’s fascinating how Lakewood Alerts claims to stand for community values yet dedicates so much energy to attacking TLS instead of providing meaningful news. The accusation that TLS ‘erases’ individuals based on personal grudges reeks of bias and lacks concrete proof. Why not present balanced reporting instead of inflammatory claims?

Calling TLS the ‘township’s mouthpiece’ feels like projection. If this article is any indication, it’s Lakewood Alerts that seems more concerned with petty vendettas than actual journalism. Digging through photos to craft a conspiracy only undermines your credibility.

Let’s be real—this constant stream of articles targeting TLS doesn’t reflect community interest; it reflects your jealousy. Perhaps focus on building your platform with quality content instead of divisive and drama-filled takedowns.”

  5. I think this needs to be published litoeles harabim actually.

#1- it’s malbin pnei chaveiroi birabim like someone mentioned.

#2- Bizu talmidei chachomim as tls crops our REB YERUCHIM for crying out loud.

#3- People drink tls coolaid all day and listen to everything they state as fact. Clearly, they have agendas and it’s time to let people know they re being lied to when reading their news for the day. Yes. This is actually VERY important. let me say it again. VERRRRYYYY IMPORTANT. You can be reading totally fake news on tls for many many years, and I am thankful and grateful it’s being exposed.

#4- The township must agree with cropping people out. Enough of the phony garbage corrupt police chief.

  6. Does Lakewood Alerts have an encrypted police radio like TLS does? Or is this pure jealousy?

I smell jealousy here that only TLS is given an encrypted radio to listen to all police emergencies that no one else besides police can hear.

How about an encrypted Hatzolah radio? Was Lakewood Alerts given one too? TLS seems to have one.

  7. As a mother of 3 (plus a dog) I am mortified, appalled and heartbroken over this. The single worst thing is Jews have experienced since Oct 7th. This is some very important information to report on. This is why Lakewood Alerts is the leading news company in the world!

  8. Did it ever occur to the letter writer that maybe those people asked not to publish their picture? Even if not, there is probably a valid reSON and there is no reason to create hock out of nothing. Who cares if they didn’t publish pictures of certain individuals? That’s their business, not yours. Don’t make a mountain out of a molehill.
