On the morning of Saturday, December 21, 2024, an 84-year-old driver crashed her vehicle into three residences in Leisure Village West, Manchester Township, resulting in injuries to herself and another elderly resident.
Police responded to the scene at approximately 10:57 a.m. and discovered a 2017 Toyota Camry with significant front-end damage. The driver, Anne Broking of Manchester, had to be extricated from the vehicle by first responders.
The investigation revealed that Broking initially backed into a home where 88-year-old Theresa Mcweeney was present. Officers successfully rescued Mcweeney from the residence before Broking’s vehicle moved forward, striking two additional homes.
Both Broking and Mcweeney sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to Community Medical Center in Toms River for treatment. Broking was confirmed to have been wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Emergency Medical Technicians, Manchester Township Volunteer Firefighters, Ridgeway Volunteer Firefighters, and the Manchester Township Building Inspector assisted at the scene. Jersey Central Power and Light and Priced Rite Towing were also involved in the response.
Preliminary findings suggest improper backing as the primary cause of the crash. The incident remains under investigation by Officer Brendan Brush of the Manchester Township Police Traffic Safety Unit.
