DWI Stop In Lakehurst Results In Arrest On Gun Charges

The Lakehurst Police Department arrested Andrew L. Colvin Jr, 56, of Chicago Illinois, after a motor vehicle stop.

On May 15, 2023, at approximately 1:34AM, Lakehurst officers were conducting additional patrols in the West Lake section of the Borough and observed a Buick sedan leave the area of the Express Inn Motel. A motor vehicle stop was then conducted by Officer Vance Pelino for several traffic violations on Route 70. During an on-scene investigation, Colvin Jr. was determined to be operating the vehicle under the influence of alcohol and was placed under arrest. During a search of the vehicle, a loaded 9mm handgun was discovered on the floor in the back seat of the vehicle. The handgun’s serial number was run through the NCIC database and found to be stolen out of Alabama. It was also determined that Colvin Jr. does not possess a permit to carry a firearm and is a convicted felon and a certain person not permitted to possess any firearms. Colvin Jr. was transported to the Lakehurst Police Department for processing and lodged at the Ocean County Jail. Colvin Jr. was charged with the following:

-Unlawful Possession of a Handgun
-Possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose
-Certain person not to possess a weapon
-Receiving stolen property
-Taking vehicle without consent of the owner
-Driving while intoxicated
-Reckless Driving
-Failure to maintain lane of travel
-Delaying traffic
-Unlicensed driver
