Driver Hospitalized After Crashing Into Utility Pole

On Wednesday, at approximately 6:00 pm, officers from the Manchester Township Police Department responded to the area of Pinewald Keswick Road and Pine Ridge Boulevard, to investigate a single motor vehicle crash involving a utility pole.

Upon arrival, officers observed a blue 2013 Hyundai Elantra, off the roadway near the intersection of Pinewald Keswick Road and Pine Ridge Boulevard with extensive front-end damage. Additionally, officers observed a damaged utility pole with wires lying on top of the Hyundai. Due to the fact live wires from the pole were on the vehicle and in the roadway, JCP&L responded to the scene to assist with safely removing the driver from the vehicle.

The investigation revealed that the Hyundai was traveling west on Pinewald Keswick Road when the Hyundai left the roadway and struck the utility pole. After striking the utility pole the Hyundai then overturned several times before coming to a stop in the wooded area in the northbound side of Pinewald Keswick Road.

The Hyundai was operated by 75-year-old Kathleen Smith of Manchester NJ, who was transported to Jersey Shore University Hospital via ambulance for treatment and evaluation of her non-life threatening injuries. The roadway was partially closed during the investigation and cleanup.
