Dor Yeshorim, which analyzes participants’ genetic information to check for genetic incompatibilities, will be holding a mass screening event for bochurim at Yeshiva K’tana in Lakewood on Monday.
The event is scheduled to run from 6:30 pm to 8 pm and costs participants $250.
At the event, bochurim will have their blood drawn and later analyzed for its genetic makeup. When a prospective shidduch nears, the boy and girl can anonymously have their genetic makeups checked for the possibility of issues that could result in serious malformities and disorders in children they would have together.
Dor Yeshorim is largely responsible for eradicating some severe illnesses in the Ashkenazi community, most notably Tay Sachs.
