Damage, Power Outages Reported in Howell, Jackson, Brick, Amid Possible Tornado Strikes

Damage has been reported in Howell, Freehold, Brick, and other townships following a powerful line of thunderstorms that moved through Ocean County near the conclusion of Shabbos.

The National Weather Service at this time has not yet confirmed any tornadoes having touched down in Ocean County, but there is damage pointing to a tornado in the Howell area.

An alert warning of a potential tornado was issued to all phones at around 7 pm.

Thousands are without power in the general area, with JCP&L crews working to restore energy to hundreds of homes and businesses.

Residents in Lakewood report hearing the wind so strong that it “sounded like a freight train”.

“Our officers are closely monitoring the unfolding situation on the ground. We urge all residents to remain indoors as emergency crews work to safely remove downed wires, restore power, and clear debris from the roadways, Lakewood Police Chief Greg Meyer told Lakewood Alerts.

There are numerous trees down all over the area, and Chaveirim and Lakewood FD are working to cut trees and open roadways.
